Intensive

9:00 – 5:00pm

  • Lectures: “Embracing the Self” + commitment
    “The Teacher” Parts I & II

  • Postures: Teach Salute to the Sun through Final Relaxation: instructions, benefits, mistakes excluding shoulder-stand leg movements, plough & bridge.

  • Assign reading in both texts corresponding to postures covered

  • Assign writing instructions, benefits, mistakes to salute to the sun

Practicum I

  • 2 hoursLecture: “The Teacher” Part III

  • Review how to form & teach student teacher practice classes

  • Review teaching salute to the sun

  • Pranayama: Advanced Breathing Techniques

Practicum II

  • 2 hoursLecture: “The Teacher” Part IV

  • Discuss experience w/ student teacher practice classe

  • Discuss importance of implementing teacher’s suggestions
    Check expertise on teaching salute to the sun
    Review adjustments (torso twist, forearm stand, shoulder stand, cross-legged fish)

  • Assign: becoming expert on adjustments

Practicum III

2 hours

  • Check on student teacher practice classes

  • Check on implementing teacher’s suggestions

  • Practical exam on 4 adjustments

  • Assign writing instructions, benefits, mistakes for

  • Diaphragmatic breathing thru simultaneous. leg lifts

Practicum IV

2 hours

  • Lecture: “The Teacher” Part V

  • Check on student teacher practice classes

  • Check on implementing teacher’s suggestions

  • Practical exam on salute to sun

  • Assign writing instructions, benefits, mistakes for forearm stand thru fish (due for class 6)

  • Lecture: Effective Communication

Practicum V

2 hours

  • Lecture: Professional behavior

  • Teach shoulder stand leg movements, plough, bridg

  • Assign writing instructions, benefits, mistakes for final relaxation, energy boost breath, super oxygenation breath, alternate nostril breathing (due for class 7)

  • Quiz: First half of class asanas: sequence, instructions, benefits and mistakes

Practicum VI

2.5 hours

  • Lecture: Effectively eliciting and integrating students’ needs and/or themes into the class.

  • Quiz: Second half of class asanas: sequence, instructions, benefits and mistakes

  • Final Written Exam

Half-day Intensive Sat or Sun
(for those who pass the exam)

  • Ensuring progression of the students who pass

  • Teach Advanced Breathing techniques exam

  • Teach triangle stretches and advanced postures: tree, crane, crescent moon, crow, side-crow, locust, bow, spinal twist, warrior, ankle-knee pose, leg cradle, wheels, arch up w/ leg movements, shooting bow

By Appointment

  • Practical exam & evaluation – Teacher Trainee teaches their practice students at Nataraja Center either for:
    a) Lead Teacher first, then Erhard later
    b) Lead Teacher & Erhard together
    c) Erhard only

Certification

  • Certification ceremony (for those who’ll teach at Nataraja Center)

  • Yoga teacher name tags and uniforms to be ready
